ABOUT MTYA
HOW WE BEGAN:MTYA was founded in May of 2019 by current Executive Director Isaac Nehring and former Executive Director Caitlin Matthews near the Sine Die of the 66th Montana Legislature. Both Caitlin and Isaac have had experience privately lobbying, and the central purpose of starting this organization was to get more young people involved in the Legislative process.
WHERE WE WORK:MTYA has seven local chapters across the state of Montana and is currently working to build even more. Our current chapters are located in Billings, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, Livingston, Missoula, and Butte. Separate from the statewide Board of Directors, each local chapter focuses on tackling local issues pertinent to the community where they are located.
OUR MISSION:Montana Youth Action is a nonpartisan, youth-run organization with the purpose of promoting political understanding, advocating for progress, and providing opportunities for civic engagement among young Montanans.
WHAT IS MTYA:MTYA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in Montana. Our organization’s exempt purposes include civic education, providing opportunities for youth to get involved in the community, and advocating for important youth causes in a nonpartisan manner. MTYA became officially incorporated with the Secretary of State in October of 2019.
SISTER ORGS:MTYA has two sister organizations also located in Montana. Amplify Montana Youth is a media organization and podcast run by high school students in Missoula and produced by Montana Youth Action. The Montana Youth Action Coalition is a coalition of youth-run organizations that was founded by Montana Youth Action.
ABOUT OUR WORK:The goal of MTYA is to provide diverse civic engagement opportunities for Montana youth. Our organization hosts events, puts together workshops, connects youth with volunteering and organizing opportunities, shares activism tools and resources with youth, and strives for progress in Montana.
